Message from Philadelphia Parks &Rec about the DC33 work stoppage

Philadelphia Parks and Recreation has DC 33 union members in Skilled Trades, Operations, and Rangers. Due to the July 1 work stoppage, some services—such as trash pickup, park maintenance, repairs, tree response, event support, and ranger coverage—will be limited or delayed.

However, mowing is done by contractors and will continue as usual. Seasonal maintenance staff are not part of the union and will also keep working throughout the stoppage.

We kindly ask that visitors please carry out any trash they bring into the parks and plan ahead, as parking may be more limited than usual, especially on weekends. Whenever possible, we encourage walking, biking, carpooling, or using public transportation to help ease congestion.

The Parks & Rec Stewardship Team remains fully committed to supporting your efforts, assisting with permits, and helping coordinate cleanups during this time.

We want to sincerely thank you—our Park Friends Groups. You truly are the heart and soul of our parks. Your ongoing dedication and care make these spaces enjoyable for our communities, and we are grateful to have your continued support throughout this period.

Thank you for your understanding and partnership. We will keep you informed as the situation evolves, and encourage you to visit the City’s webpagewww.phila.gov/workstoppage for ongoing updates .
